Original Source:

We’ve provided links to purchase many of our suggested readings, but you can also track them down at your local library or infoshop. Many of these books are out of print, so when available we’ve linked used copies. Otherwise, the library is probably the only way to go. Feel free to email us directly if you feel like addressing a specific situation and need advice on readings, or check out Philly’s Pissed archive of zines available for download.

Accountability/Transformative Justice

Here are some general readings on accountability and transformative justice that we like.  We have a much more extensive set of readings on different topics we use in our accountability processes, so feel free to email us for more specific resources in addition to the ones listed below.

4 Ways to Push Back against Your Privilege by Mia McKenzie
http://www.blackgirldangerous.org/2014/02/4-ways-push-back-privilege/
A great piece from Black Girl Dangerous a multi-faceted forum for expression that seeks to, in as many ways possible, amplify the voices, experiences and expressions of queer and trans* people of color.

Accounting for Ourselves: Breaking the Impasse Around Assault and Abuse in Anarchist Scenes
http://www.crimethinc.com/blog/2013/04/17/accounting-for-ourselves/
Sexual assault and abuse continue to plague anarchist circles and spaces. In response, we’ve developed processes to hold each other accountable outside of the state. But why can’t we seem to get them right? Accounting for Ourselves, examines the context in which these community accountability models emerged, analyzes the pitfalls we’ve encountered in trying to apply them, and proposes new directions for our resistance

Challenging Men, Changing Communities: Reflections on Male Supremacy and Transformative Justice
http://challengingmalesupremacy.files.wordpress.com/2011/03/challenging-men-changing-communities1.pdf
Details the collective experience of forming CMS, organizing and facilitating a nine-month “Study-into-Action” group, and holding a public event (as well as some of the political analysis that brought us to this project). We bookend the essay with a detailed, first-person account of one of our experiences supporting an accountability process.

Creative Interventions Toolkit: A Practical Guide to Stop Interpersonal Violence
http://www.creative-interventions.org/tools/toolkit/
Over 200 pages in length, this mammoth document is for readers who are seeking a thorough examination of community accountability models and measures.

Gender Oppression-Abuse-Violence: Community Accountability in People of Color Progressive Movements
http://www.transformativejustice.eu/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/community-accountability-in-POC-progressive-mvmt.pdf
A report drafted in 2005 to develop community accountability politics, principles, processes, and practices which can extend beyond gender to address other forms of oppression.

It’s Down to This: Reflections, Stories, Experiences, Critiques, and Ideas on Community and Collective Response to Sexual Violence, Abuse, and Accountability
http://www.akpress.org/itsdowntothis.html
This zine collects a multitude of stories, reflections and articles—from advice on finding a therapist, written by a perpetrator who is in an accountability process, to articles describing what different accountability groups look like, to raw stories of the failure of radical communities to step up and offer support to survivors.

The Revolution Starts at Home
http://lgbt.wisc.edu/documents/Revolution-starts-at-home.pdf
A classic anthology of readings that span not only community accountability but survivor support in radical communities.
